Riverdale District Academic Overview
The Riverdale Community has valuedexcellence in education for more than 120 years. Thecommunity prides itself on its independent status and voted to retainthis independence with the passage of a bond in March 1996 to build a high school. RiverdaleSchool District has always enjoyed widespread community interest,involvement and support.
Riverdale Grade School offers a programfor students in kindergarten through grade eight and provides acomprehensive and varied curriculum. The K-8 students benefit from a low student-teacher ratio, with twoclasses per grade and approximately 300 total students. The gradeschool is organized as Primary (K-4), Intermediate (5-6) and UpperGrades (7-8) to allow for broad curriculum flexibility. The facultyincludes specialists in music, second languages, physical education,library/media, art and special education student services. Studentsalso enjoy a diverse selection of enrichment programs. A Field Studiesprogram involving students and staff combines learning experiences withthe opportunity to explore Oregon's many resources. Both RiverdaleGrade School and Riverdale High School have state-of-the-art computerlabs with computers networked throughout the schools and connected tothe Internet. Construction on a new state-of-the-art Grade School began in the summer of 2009 and was completed in August 2010.
Riverdale High School opened inSeptember 1996 for grades 9-12. The high school is now in itspermanent location at 9727 SW Terwilliger Boulevard in Portland - justtwo miles from the Riverdale Grade School. Riverdale High School has grown to a student body in the mid-200's, whilemaintaining a low student-teacher ratio to maximize individualattention.
